What is flexographic printing?
Nov 20, 2018

The American Flexographic Printing Association officially defined flexographic printing in 1980 as: flexographic printing is a direct rotary printing method, similar to the letterpress printing method, using an elastic rubber or resin plate. The printing plate is fixed on the plate cylinder, and is transferred from a cell structure-structured "web roller" capable of measuring ink to the quantitatively fast-dried liquid ink onto the printing plate, and printed by the impression cylinder. On almost any material, including absorbent or non-absorbent materials.

China's national standard GB 9851.4--90 "printing terminology letterpress terminology" definition: flexographic printing is the use of a flexographic plate, through the anilox roller to transfer ink printing.

Flexographic printing originates from English Flexographic, also known as flexo printing. In terms of its meaning, all printing techniques using soft plates can be called flexographic printing.

Flexographic printing combines the characteristics of three printing processes: printing, offset printing and four printing. If a high-elastic relief is used, the metal mesh retort with a cell is used for quantitative ink supply, and the printing ink has good fluidity. The quick-solvent solvent or water-based ink with low viscosity can be used, and the printing quality can be compared with the offset printing. It is suitable for printing all kinds of printing materials such as paper, plastic film, metal foil and self-adhesive.

Due to the use of a short ink path metal anilox roller ink supply system, the flexographic printing machine is easy to control and has a high degree of automation. Therefore, the printing operation technique is simpler than embossing and offset printing.
